"The American Revolutionary War: From British Subjects to American Revolutionaries"

This thesis examines the American Revolutionary War and how the Patriots were able to defeat the British, who were the most powerful nation on Earth at that time. To answer this, four aspects were examined and analyzed; The Sons of Liberty, the Founding Fathers, the Unsung Heroes, and the entirety of the Patriot Military Forces. To make such a task manageable, certain Founding Fathers and Unsung Heroes were selected as subjects for their respective chapters.

The Sons of Liberty chapter of the work discusses the organization's influence in the years before the full-fledged revolution; when the situation in the colonies was merely a small scale rebellion. This chapter discusses how these actions influenced the succeeding events of the American Revolutionary War.

The Founding Fathers chapter examines five of the most recognized Founding Fathers and their impact during the years of the war. The Founders examined are:

  • George Washington

  • Thomas Jefferson

  • Benjamin Franklin

  • John Adams, and

  • Thomas Paine

The Unsung Heroes chapter examines some of the lesser known figures of the Revolution, without whose contributions, the war may have been lost. The Unsung Heroes examined are:

  • Nathanael Greene

  • Francis Marion

  • Daniel Morgan

  • Joseph Warren

  • Deborah Samson, and

  • Abraham Woodhull

The Patriot Military Forces chapter discusses the three major aspects of the Patriot forces during the war; the Continental Army, the Militias, and the State Levies. This chapter aims to set the record straight on the effectiveness of each and how they were collectively able to secure the independence of the United States of America.

Throughout the work, a large quantity of scholarly primary and secondary source material was utilized to substantiate various claims and verify the numerous facts that are noted.
